I have been [seriously] running for about 15 months now. This started around June 2012 when I ran my first 10k. It went miserably. I felt slow, it was hot, I wanted to puke…. It sucked. BUT. I finished. This was my a-ha moment. The moment I realized that 3 months prior to that that I NEVER could have done that. So I also had this thought of “well what else could I do?”. So I signed up for a half marathon: The Monster Dash 2012, and I finished. After that I was hooked. I ran through the winter, the spring, summer, and now I’m still running.
I resolved to run a race each month for 2013, and I’m in October, and gearing up to do my 11th race this year, and I am signed up for two more races in November.
I am also on point to break 100 miles in one month (this month)
I joined a running group to push myself.
My pace has improved.
I didn’t write this to brag on myself. I’m not that person. But I am an average person, who started running to be healthier. I didn’t particularly like running when I started but it was something I could do. Now it’s almost addicting- I have seen the numbers change: my pace, miles I can at one time, miles I can run in one week, I have ran in heat of almost 100 degrees, and in frigid temps as low as 15. I’ve seen my endurance change, my muscle tone change, and even my weight drop a little. It didn’t happen overnight, it’s been a process, and somewhere along the way I managed to lose my sanity. 🙂
If I can do it why can’t you?
The thing I like, and the thing that has help me, is running is something you can measure every time. Maybe at first you just want to jog for a mile without walking, or maybe 10 minutes of jogging and 5 minutes of walking.
Tomorrow I am going to run my 4th half marathon. I am nervous. Extremely nervous. I did not plan to do this half, I had planned on doing the 10k. It was not until this past Wednesday that I opted to do the half in someone’s place instead.
I have been logging a lot of weekly miles, but I have not done any long runs (> 8 miles) in about a month.
So if you never hear from me again it’s because I died somewhere after mile 8……
So here is a glorious photo montage of my accomplishments races

Good luck today! RUN LIKE THE WIND!
