Grocery Shopping and Saving Money

As I get older wiser I get better and better at getting things I want and need and saving money in the process. Especially when it comes to grocery shopping.

This is my haul from Friday- it had been close to a month since I formally “got groceries” so my supplies are at an all time low. I spent $60, and this will last me two weeks. I save money by planning my meals, making a grocery list, sticking to my grocery list, and by cutting out the “extras” – those things that sound good- but that I don’t necessarily need.

So here is a breakdown of my treasures:

-1 lb lean ground turkey
-1 lb 90% lean ground sirloin
(I have both of these wrapped into half pound portions)
-1/2 a dozen eggs
-1 can black beans
-Wisconsin White cheddar cheese

-4 Chobani yogurts

-2 packages of flat outs/fold outs

-1 bunch cilantro
-2 bell peppers
-1 bag green grapes
-1 container raspberries
-2 peaches
-1 bag rainier cherries
-Organic girl super greens
-1 bunch Bostob lettuce
-2 lemons
-2 limes
-2 red onions
-1 head of red cabbage
-1 avocado

-2 Clif Builders Bars
-1 case Grapefruit LaCroix

I use fruit and small amounts of cheese as snacks, as well as the chobani. I love making breakfast burritos and having breakfast for dinner – so I will use eggs, black peppers, and onions for that – along with the flat outs. I add red cabbage to salads and use it as sides.

I also have a good amount of grains in my cupboard as well as frozen vegetables in my freezer to add to meals. I use the basic plate method to set up my meals: a lean protein, half a plate of non starchy vegetables, and a carb/whole grain.

Have a great week everyone! Happy meal planning!!
