Chocolate Peppermint Cookies & Peppermint Mochas

Every year for as long as I can remember the women in my family have participated in a cookie exchange.  Growing up this was one of my favorite Holiday traditions as it meant COOKIES.  And for young Sarah this was always a glorious treat, as that meant plotting with my cousins, and eating as many cookies as we could.

In my family a cookie exchange works in the following ways

1) Every lady MUST RSVP, this is a must as everyone needs to know how many cookies to make.

2) Everyone brings a dish to pass – this year we are doing brunch, so there shall be breakfast casseroles and french toast galore (and cookies)

3) Then after breakfast we get out the fanciful coffee creamers (I made a special treat for the ladies this year)

These cookies were found on Pinterest and published here on Inside Bru Crew Life.

Here is what you need to make the cookies:

-1 Box white cake mix

-1 stick of butter (yeah definitely not the healthiest recipe on my blog – but whatever)

– 1 egg

– 1/2 tsp peppermint extract

– 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

– 4 oz cream cheese

– 1 cup oreo cookies (I only used about 5-6 crumbled cookies in each batch)

-1 cup andes peppermint crunch pieces

-1/2 cup dark chocolate chips

(I was able to get about 50 cookies per 1 batch) – which is what the macros below are based on.


>Preheat your oven to 350

>Combine cake mix, butter, egg, and extracts, begin mixing, and once incorporated add in the cream cheese.  I did this much with a spatula – however once I started incorporating the oreos, dark chocolate, and crunch chips (which is the next step)- I just used my hands to incorporate everything.

> Bake for 9 minutes, they will look pale and not done THEY ARE DONE.  Take them out, and let them rest for two minutes.

These cookies were easy, delicious, and they were fragrant, by the time I got done cooking – the house smelled like peppermint.  This is definitely not the “cleanest” or healthiest recipe on my blog, but it was delicious – and in the right portion (see below) – they aren’t overly decadent.

So if you don’t want to know how many calories are in these – this is the point where I tell you to TURN BACK NOW.

I made pretty small cookies – so this yielded ~52 cookies per batch (aka ~ 9 dozen)

Calories: 91

Total Fat: 4.7 g

Saturated Fat: 3 g

Total Cholesterol: 4 mg

Sodium: 87 mg

Potassium: 3.6 mg

Total Carbohydrate: 12 g

Sugars: 7.7 g

*not a significant source of poly/mono/trans fats, as well as fiber or protein.

So that could have been WAY worse considering the butter.

As I said above I actually made two treats – one being the cookies, and the other treat was a DIY Peppermint mocha.

So I love holiday drinks.  What I don’t love is crazy prices for holiday drinks nor do I love a drink with a ridiculous amount of extra ingredients, sugar, and crap that aren’t necessary.  So I researched a lot and even after making the recipe I made a couple of modifications.  So here is my final recipe

~3 cups strong black coffee

~ 1 cup cashew milk

1 tsp pure peppermint oil/extract

2-3 Tbsp Cocoa Powder

Optional: 1-2 drops liquid stevia
